The 3 STCW 95: MCA approved Fire Fighting First Aid and Sea Survival

RYA Competent Crew: Starting point for beginners covering sea terms, rigging, sail handling, rope-work etc

Day Skipper Theory: All crew are required to perform watch keeping duties, this will include position plotting, radar watch, chart work and navigation such as dead reckoning, estimated position, courses to steer, Collision Regulations, Tidal navigation and heights, etc. This knowledge is the essential building platform toward the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster qualifications needed to advance through the industry.

Day Skipper Practical: Preparation for sea & deck work; practical navigation & pilotage; skippering; maintenance, engines & victualling; yacht handling under power/sail; passage making, MOB & meteorology; rules of road & emergency situations.

RYA Radar and VHF/SRC: These 2 RYA courses provide the knowledge and certificates required to practically interpret and operate the radar and radio aboard.

Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory: Advanced course in navigation and meteorology for the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate.

Day Skipper to Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory: The 5 day RYA Day Skipper Theory course and the 5 day RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory course have been combined to form a new 7 day RYA Day Skipper to Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory course for the following reasons:

  • Students who have acquired practical experience overseas without having received any former theory tuition can complete the full theory program in 7 days as opposed to 2 separate 5 days courses as per the standard RYA program, thus enabling them to complete their training and exams in a shorter period and return to their boats.
  • By condensing the theory into 7 days, the training periods are shorter and substantially less costly.
  • The 4 week RYA Day Skipper students benefit from completing all their theory in the 4 week course as they do not have to take further tuition at a later stage when they upgrade to Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore.

Coastal Skipper Practical: Planning a coastal passage, piloting day and night, navigation, ports of refuge, tidal heights and tidal streams, publications required and strategy, passage making and ability as skipper, adverse weather conditions.

RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance: This course covers the main systems of marine diesel engines, measures for preventing breakdown at sea and basic trouble shooting.

Power Boat level 2 and Super Yacht Training: Guests are regularly ferried between the yachts and the shore and a licensed driver of a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) is required for this service. The course covers all aspects of RIB driving, launching, fuelling etc and this qualification greatly enhances the opportunity for employment as qualified drivers are always needed.

2 day Yachtmaster Offshore Exam: An independent RYA examiner appointed by the Examiners Board examines each student over a period of time that covers day and night sailing/motoring. During that time the examiner will assess each student's theoretical and practical ability and will complete the examination with a final de-briefing of their overall performance as final result..

Ocean Theory Course, Sight Taking Trip and Oral Exam: Celestial navigation, offshore sight taking trip, sight calculations and oral exam.
