THE SAILING SCHOOL |

ESTABLISHED in 1979, OCEAN SAILING ACADEMY is South Africa’s premier sailing school and one of the largest RYA sailing schools in the world. Based in the beautiful coastal city of Cape Town, the Academy offers career sail training and power training for the international yachting and super yachting industries.
We offer a well balanced training program, alternating offshore practical modules with shore-based theory modules in our excellent private accommodation and theory base, the Ocean House.
Our sail training methods are progressive and thorough as our aim is to expose our students to the many aspects of sailing including heavy weather and advanced offshore survival techniques. Challenging cruises such as rounding the famous Cape Point (where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans “meet”) and Cape Agulhas, the southern most tip of Africa, regularly fall within the RYA sail training programs.

PRIME LOCATIONS |

Victoria & Alfred Marina: The main office lies within walking distance (200m) of the city’s leading tourist/entertainment destination, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Supermarkets, banks, pubs, restaurants, sailing shops, pharmacies etc are located here and students can conveniently stock up on everything they need before or during their sail training.
Langebaan Lagoon (Practical and Theory Bases): This extensive and beautiful marine sanctuary on the Cape West coast offers excellent sail training features suited to the RYA curriculum such strong tidal streams, multiple ports, sand banks, islands and variable winds (See below for theory base) |

RYA AND SAS COURSES |

OUR SCHOOL offers the full range of RYA Sailing and Motor Cruising career courses for the private and commercial boating industry, specialising in the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and RYA Yachtmaster Offshore & Ocean courses for sail and power. Qualifying South African Sailing (SAS) courses for local cruising and RYA leisure courses are also offered. Food and accommodation is included in the price. |

Modern 20 bedded (en suite) Ocean House
THE ACADEMY provides excellent in-house accommodation with lecturing facilities as a standard part of the sail training program. Home cooked meals and hot showers add to this welcome break from the yachts where spacious well lit lecture rooms for practicing navigation, preparing pre-exam passage plans and studying are available all hours.
TV, satellite channels, DVD player, sound system and internet access (charged) are also available. |

PRINCIPAL |

ROBBIE DOVE, the principal of the sailing school is one of the country’s most highly respected racing/cruising yachtsmen and instructors. He holds the local SAS and RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and Ocean/Instructor certificates and was appointed as an RYA Examiner for Power and Sail in 2003. He is also an Examiner for the local sailing body in South Africa (SAS).
